About the Job - Your Role

The Health Information Specialist position coordinates the activities of Paroled Medical Records for Health Services' central administration. This includes the compilation, processing, and maintenance of medical records for adults in custody (AICs) medical charts after release from DOC custody. The incumbent acts as a liaison for physicians or other medical personnel needing or providing medical records pertaining to the AIC population. Position is responsible for records retention, archival, and response to public records requests. These activities must meet all the requirements set forth by administrative rules, federal and state laws pertaining to medical information and confidentiality. The Health Information Specialist serves as custodian of all AIC medical records maintained by the Health Services Division.

This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience related to the class concept.

OR

An Associate degree in Health Information Technology from an accredited program.

OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preference may be given to applicants with experience using Electronic Health Records

      You will be expected to role model prosocial behavior and have an attitude conveying dignity and respect in the treatment of others. Able to acknowledge everyone is capable of positive change. Requires contact with adults in custody who may become violent. Walking or standing for long periods of time, climbing and descending stairs. Exposed to chemicals, radiation, communicable diseases, or other hazards inherent in a health care and correctional setting. You will need to be able to lift 50 lbs., maneuver, and move with or without reasonable accommodations.

      The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

          The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position.
